How To Help

Volunteers

The Northampton Survival Center could not function without the dedicated support of our exceptional volunteers. An active crew of hundreds of volunteers, ranging in age from 14 to 86 help us every weekday with a variety of tasks, including:

  • Shopping at the Food Bank
  • Pick up donations from local retailers
  • Folding and sorting clothing
  • Facilitating smooth operations during Pantry
  • Shelving/tidying children's books & toys
  • Stocking the food pantry
  • Working with clients in choosing food packages
  • Cleaning

How To Get Started

If you're interested in volunteering, we invite you to attend one of our brief orientation sessions (about 45 minutes). Please contact our volunteer coordinator, Lynne Saner, at Lynne@theNSC.org to let her know which session you plan on attending.

The schedule for July and August is as follows:

  • Thursday, July 8th at 3pm
  • Wednesday, July 21st at 9:30am
  • Wednesday, August 4th at 9:30am
  • Thursday, August 19th at 3pm
  • During orientation, you'll take a tour of our office and food pantry, hear a description of our operations and an overview of various volunteer opportunities, and receive a Volunteer Handbook. If, after the session, you remain interested in volunteering, you'll fill out an application and we'll take it from there!

Many, many thanks for your interest. We look forward to your help!

More Volunteers

I volunteer at the Survival Center every Tuesday, and it's much more satisfying than my day job!

I moved here 8 years ago from NJ and knew I wanted to do some volunteer work. My daughter suggested the Northampton Survival Center where I have been volunteering since then. This has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. It's a great feeling knowing you are helping those in need.
